Japanese follows English I designed a series of patterns for Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten's signature Kaya-ori Fukin dishcloths.
The collection, called "Tools," features patterns inspired by three everyday household activities: cooking, laundry, and cleaning. The designs are playful and cheerful, bringing a little joy and positivity to everyday chores.
Kaya-ori is a traditional textile from Nara, Japan, with a history dating back to before the Nara period (710–794). Originally used for mosquito nets, it is a loosely woven, lightweight fabric that allows air to pass through while keeping mosquitoes out. Made from five layers of cotton kaya-ori fabric, these dishcloths become softer with every use.
They are highly absorbent, durable, and made to last.
Perfect for drying dishes, wiping tables, or using as hand towels.
They also make lovely little gifts, whether as a small token of appreciation or just a thoughtful gesture.
