Masaru Suzuki / Textile Designer

Masaru Suzuki has been the organizer of the fabric brand OTTAIPNU since 2004.
He has developed a collection of colorful printed fabrics that are full of the inherent charm of the fabrics. In addition to his own brand, he has produced textile products for various domestic and international brands such as MARIMEKKO, CAMPER, and UNIQLO. In addition to textiles, he also develops pattern designs and designs based on his own textiles for various scenes such as furniture and architectural spaces.
He is a professor at Tokyo Zokei University and a director of UNPIATTO INC.

Biography

1991	Graduated from Tama Art University, Faculty of Art and Design,Department of Design,Dyeing and Weaving
1991~1994	Worked for Hiroshi Awatsuji Design Office Co.
2002	Established UNPIATTO Inc.
2004~	Launched OTTAIPNU fabric brand.
2006~	YOSHII TOWEL Co., Ltd. launches the OTTAIPNU TOWEL COLLECTION towel series.
2009~	Designed for LAPUAN KANKURIT (Finland).
2010	Selected as a designer for CONNECT JAPAN sponsored by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and presented his work at AMBIENTE (Germany).
2010~	Designed for MARIMEKKO (Finland).
2011~	MOONBAT Inc. launches a series of umbrellas and parasols; launches OTTAIPNU KASA COLLECTION.
2012	Exhibition "Masaru Suzuki Umbrella Exhibition, Textiles to Carry Around" at CASE GALLERY in Yoyogi Uehara.

2013	Selected for J STYLE+ organized by JETRO and participated in the Japan Pavilion at Maison & Objet (Paris).

2014	UNIQLO's T-shirt brand, UT, has designed a total of 18 patterns of T-shirts for WORLD OMIYAGE 2014SS, a project based on the concept of "souvenirs" from cities around the world.
2014	Artwork for the front lobby of the renovated Ginza Grand Hotel.
2014	Exhibition "Masaru Suzuki Umbrella Exhibition, Textiles to Carry Around" at Spiral Garden, Omotesando, Tokyo.
2014	Designed a mural for the new ward "Medical Center for Children and Adults" of the National Hospital Organization, Niigata Hospital.
2014~	Designed the main visual for "Toyama-moyou", a project to wrap the Kitanihon Shimbun in a pattern featuring Toyama for four consecutive days.
2014	Designed the cover textile for arflex's masterpiece sofa "MARENCO" and held the "MARENCO x SUZUKI Masaru" exhibition at arflex japan.
2015	Became a professor at the Department of Design, Faculty of Design, Tokyo Zokei University.
2015	Designed the cover textile for Bang & Olufsen's (Denmark) A9 speaker.

2015~	UNIQLO and OTTAIPNU announce a collaborative project, UNIQLO x OTTAIPNU by Masaru Suzuki.
2015	The "Toyama-moyou" series of projects won the 35th Newspaper Advertising Award in the Newspaper Company Planning Category.
2016	Winner of the Milan Design Award 2016 "BEST ENGAGEMENT by IED" for the textile installation at the Aisin Seiki booth during Milan Design Week 2016 (Milan).
2016	Exhibition "Textiles by Masaru Suzuki" at T-SITE Garden Gallery, Daikanyama.

2019	Designed the wall artwork for the pediatric ward of the Haga Red Cross Hospital.
2019	The exhibition, "Forest, Lake, Umbrella," was held at metsa, a commercial facility in Hanno City, and consisted of an approximately 800 square meter road covered with ink-jet printed sheets and approximately 1000 umbrella skies overhead.

2020	Designed a renewal mural for the Fujiyoshida City Hall in Yamanashi Prefecture.
2021	Yamada seni. Co.,Ltd releases a series of furoshiki wrapping cloths.

鈴木マサル/テキスタイルデザイナー

2004年からファブリックブランドOTTAIPNUを主催。
色鮮やかなプリントファブリックを中心に生地本来が持つ魅力にあふれたコレクションを展開。自身のブランド以外にも、マリメッコ、カンペール、ユニクロなど、国内外の様々なブランドからテキスタイルプロダクトを発表。テキスタイル以外にも家具や建築空間など様々なシーンに向け、パターンデザインや自身のテキスタイルを軸にしたデザインを展開しています。
東京造形大学教授、有限会社ウンピアット取締役。

1991	多摩美術大学デザイン学科染織科卒業
1991~1994	株式会社粟辻博デザイン室勤務
2002	有限会社ウンピアット設立。
2004~	ファブリックブランドOTTAIPNU をスタート
2006~	吉井タオル株式会社からタオルのシリーズ OTTAIPNU TOWEL COLLECTION をスタート。
2009~	LAPUAN KANKURIT(フィンランド)のデザインを手がける。
2010	経済産業省主催のCONNECT JAPAN のデザイナーに選出され、AMBIENTE(ドイツ)にて作品を発表。
2010~	MARIMEKKO(フィンランド) のデザインを手がける。
2011~	株式会社ムーンバットから傘、日傘のシリーズを発表。OTTAIPNU KASA COLLECTION をスタート
2012	代々木上原CASE GALLERYにて「鈴木マサル傘展・持ち歩くテキスタイル」展を開催。
